Getting the Best Betting Value out of the Summer Sports Schedule

by ReadyBetGo Editor

A lot of huge events for sports bettors have been postponed this summer, including the Euro 2020 tournament, Wimbledon, The Open and the Tokyo Olympics. The latter isn’t perhaps known for itsReadyBetGo EditorThere are occasions when we here at ReadyBetGo want to bring you interesting facts about the gambling industry  When something catches our eye, we will publish it for your enjoyment.  association with betting, but plenty of punters like to have a flutter on the marquee events like the 100m.

Yet, far from having a barren summer of sports, there still remains plenty of action to watch. Moreover, there are some events where we can pinpoint some decent betting value for punters looking to make a profit. Below is a quick guide to what we believe to be worthy of your attention in the coming months. If you want more detailed betting tips for the biggest sports events, check the FreeBets UK website for the latest analysis and updates.

June – Bundesliga Concludes

The first of Europe’s Big 5 leagues to return, the Bundesliga is now in full swing. It’s almost certain that Bayern Munich will walk away as champions (again), but there isn’t much fun in backing them at odds of 1/6. The team to watch, however, is Bayer Leverkusen. The team has been on a roll since Christmas and boast one of Europe’s best young prospects in Kai Havertz. Leverkusen (currently 4th) won’t catch Bayern Munich, but they can leapfrog everyone else. 22/1 is the price from Betfair in a special “Betting without Bayern Munich market”, and it looks a great bet.

June – Revamped Royal Ascot

Not only is Royal Ascot going ahead, but there will also be six extra races packed into the five days of action. Almost 300,000 fans made the event last year, so it’s going to be a bit weird to see racing take place “behind closed doors”. Regardless, we will get to see Stradivarius (6/4) go for a Gold Cup hat-trick, and there is a lot to like about Battaash (11/4) romping home in the Kings Stand Stakes. The 2018 and 2019 winner, Blue Point, has been retired to stud, so that opens the way for Battaash to capitalise. There is sure to be a flurry of betting activity on the races this year, but the hasty reorganising of the event means some big names could miss out with travel restrictions etc. Best hold fire on your betting until you get the full picture. Although, most bookmakers will offer NRNB (Non Runner No Bet) refunds for the event.

July – Austrian Grand Prix

The new F1 season will get underway at Hockenheim over the weekend of 3rd-5th July. Lewis Hamilton is the overwhelming odds-on favourite to take his 7th World Championship, but you do get bigger prices for individual races. 15/8 is quoted by Ladbrokes for the Brit to open the season with a win. And yet, the value bet might just be his team-mate, Valtteri Bottas at 13/2. The Finn racked up four Grand Prix wins last season on his way to finishing second in the Drivers’ Championship, and he can set the tone for a good season with another win here.

August – US PGA Championship

Now the first Major of the 2020 golf calendar, the PGA Championship will take place in the first week of August. Rory McIlroy, who recently returned to the world number one spot, was in ridiculously good form at the start of the year, and bookmakers seem to believe that will continue once the Majors come around. He is 7/1 favourite generally here, with almost everyone else available at 14/1 or above. 7/1 is short for a golf Major, however, and we would prefer taking someone like Xander Schauffele at 25/1 e/w with Betfred. The British bookie is offering seven places in the each-way markets for the event.
