Las Vegas Casino and Gambling News
On March 19th, 1911 gambling was legalized in the State of Nevada. One month later, the city of Las Vegas issued six gambling licenses. It hasn't looked back since. After World War II, Las Vegas really took off as lavishly decorated resort hotels and gambling casinos offering top-name entertainment came into existence. Bugsy Siegel and the mob had undue influence, but over time Nevada regulators made Las Vegas more respectable. During 60s and 70s, corporations began building and/or buying hotel/casino properties. Gambling becomes "gaming" and starts the transition into legitimate business.
As Michael Ventura writes, Las Vegas is "noisy, blatant, sexy and obsessed with money. . . .It is unequivocally the craziest place I've ever seen, and it doesn't care." One hundred years after it started as a pit stop in the desert, Las Vegas is now the center of the gambling universe.
