Macau Gambling Developments

For many years Macau gambling industry was under the sole propiertership of Stanley Ho.   In 1962, the government granted his Sociedade de Turismo e Diversoes de Macau (STDM) the monopoly rights to all forms of gambling. The licence was extended in 1986 for another 15 years, but expired at the end of 2001. In 2002, the Macau government dispanded the Macau gambling monopoly and since then 4 casino operating concessions have been granted.  Sociedade de Jogos de Macau (SJM formerly STDM), Las Vegas Sands, and Galaxy Casino are currently moving forward with developments.  Wynn Resorts has recently announced that its license has been sold. Today, there are sixteen casinos operated by the STDM, and they are still crucial to the casino industry in Macau.

This area will continue to be a big part of the world's gambling buzz.  Keep up with the developments in Macau here.
