KANSAS CITY, Missouri -- As reported by The Kansas City Star: "If Kansas City's casinos are feeling the recession's undertow, it hardly showed in March.
"Gamblers left behind nearly $63.7
Isle of Capri Kansas City Casino million last month at the area's four casinos, down 2 percent from March 2008 but still the market's fifth-biggest month ever.
"'I never thought I'd be saying that a flat market was a positive,' said Troy Stremming, senior vice president at Ameristar Kansas City Casino and Hotel. 'But it's gratifying when some other markets like Las Vegas and Atlantic City are down 25 or 30 percent.'
"March is always a big month for the 'boats,' thanks to the weather and basketball fans in town. This March probably suffered compared with last year because March 2008 had five Saturdays.
"The market also was flat across Missouri, as the total take for the state's 12 casinos was nearly $151.3 million, just below $151.6 million in March 2008..."
