TORONTO, Canada – as reported by the Belleville Intelligencer: “The trees have been felled and the land cleared on the southern fringe of Bell Boulevard east of Wallbridge-Loyalist Road to make way for new large-scale gambling operations.
“But despite the razing of a 107-acre woodland, it will be some time before heavy equipment begins to dig the foundations for a new $30-million horseracing facility, slots parlour and Quinte Exhibition and Raceway fairgrounds.
“Graham Simmonds, president of Baymount Corporation, confirmed from Toronto Wednesday his company is waiting for the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to carry out its background checks on an application to open the new gambling facility.
“...There could be as many as 300 slot machines inside the new gambling parlour that would be operated by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation which would lease space from Baymount Corporation.
“...When final approvals are given, Simmonds expects the project to be completed within 12 months.
“A new slots parlour would be housed in a 61,000-square-foot club house.
“The machines are expected to bolster track revenues adding to horseracing purses on a new 5/8-mile horseracing track.”
