OHIO - As reported by the Columbus Dispatch: "Several of Ohio’s most prominent politicians vowed yesterday to defeat any measure that would allow casino gambling in the state, an effort

they said would cross party lines to counter an expected $15 million in pro-casino ads.
"But even as leading Ohio politicians denounced gambling as a moral and economic blight, they struggled to keep the issue out of the November governor’s race.
"Casino backers are collecting signatures for a November ballot issue that would legalize slot machines at Ohio’s seven racetracks — including two in Franklin County — and at two downtown Cleveland locations.
"Both candidates for governor, Republican J. Kenneth Blackwell and Democrat Ted Strickland, oppose the measure.. . ."
