Five horses to watch out for when racing returns

by ReadyBetGo Editor

We’re all missing live sport, and fans of horse racing in particular have been left pining for the days of near non-stop action, with those who frequently analyse today's racing results leftReadyBetGo EditorThere are occasions when we here at ReadyBetGo want to bring you interesting facts about the gambling industry  When something catches our eye, we will publish it for your enjoyment.
with a sport-shaped void in their lives. The coronavirus outbreak has meant that the vast majority of sporting events across the world have had to be put on hold, and horse racing is no different.

But there is a glimmer of hope now for horse racing fans in the UK. With the government saying that we are past the peak of the virus, there is perhaps light at the end of the tunnel as far as the resumption of sport is concerned. Both Germany and France have already outlined plans to resume the horse racing campaign, and the UK might not be too far behind.

With that in mind, we’ve had a look at five horses who we think will be the ones to watch when racing gets back underway.

Tiger Roll

We start with a horse whose name is usually on everyone’s lips around this time of year. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic meant Tiger Roll was unable to defend his Grand National crown and go for a third successive victory, but that will undoubtedly not prevent him from enjoying more success in the future. Trainer Gordon Elliott and jockey Davy Russell have made a habit of winning the Aintree showpiece, and if it is rearranged for later in the year you can bet that Tiger Roll will be the hot favourite once again.

Frodon

The dynamic between Frodon and jockey Bryony Frost have always been interesting – the young, hungry jockey and the primed, JP McManus-owned, Paul Nicholls-trained horse. Many fancied Frodon and Frost for success at the Cheltenham Festival in the Ryanair Chase, but the duo were forced to settle for a fourth-place finish. It will be intriguing to see how both horse and jockey bounce back when racing resumes, and if there is a big win around the corner to reward Frost for all her hard work and energy.

Altior

Altior was once the horse to beat in jumps racing, but in the months leading up to its suspension, the Nicky Henderson-trained 10-year-old had stuttered by his high standards, both in terms of form and fitness. He was beaten back in November by Cyrname at Ascot, and even after he had got back to winning ways at Kempton in February, injury hit to leave Altior unable to compete in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Henderson and regular jockey Nico de Boinville will be desperate for Altior to reassert himself in the sport when racing gets back underway.

Potters Corner

A slightly more left-field pick here, but Potters Corner was recently in the headlines when he won the Virtual Grand National, staged in lieu of the real-life Aintree event which was forced to be cancelled. He was 18/1 to win the virtual race, and came through to cause a shock and consign hot favourite Tiger Roll to a fourth-place finish.

Al Boum Photo

We end our list of horses to watch with the now two-time winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Al Boum Photo gave a fine display in March to win the famous race for a second year running, and now all eyes will be on the horse, trainer Willie Mullins, and regular jockey Paul Townend to see if more success awaits them when horse racing emerges from lockdown and returns to courses around the UK and our TV screens once again.
