The original Lettermen got their start in Las Vegas in the late 1950s. Their breakthrough 1961 single “The Way You Look Tonight” was a soft, romantic ballad that ran counter to the Doo Wop and Rock-and-Roll sounds of the day. It started a streak of timeless pop ballad hits – “Theme from “A Summer Place,”’ “Goin’ out of My Head/Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and “Hurt So Bad” – that made them one of the premier groups of the 1960s. Group founder Tony Butala is still with the group, accompanied by Donovan Tea and Mark Preston, giving audiences the glow of their very special sound.
